Access to the catalog

The library was inaugurated upon the creation of the Aggeu Magalhaes Institute and has the purpose of gathering, organizing, and disseminating the documentation necessary for the development of the institution's research and teaching activities. The library collection specializes in Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, and related sciences. Its collection is available to all IAM students, faculty, researchers, interns and employees for borrowing, consultation, and use of its services.  

For the general public, the collection is available for consultation only.


Health Databases

Lilacs is a database coordinated by BIREME. It comprises literature related to Health Sciences that can be searched in the Library through CD-ROM or via the Internet at the BIREME site.  

Medline is a database of international literature in the medical and biomedical area, produced by the NLM, National Library of Medicine, in the United States. This database may be accessed on CD-ROM in the Library itself or via the Internet through PubMed or BIREME 

The Scientific Electronic Library Online - SciELO is an electronic library covering a selected collection of Brazilian scientific journals. SciELO is the result of a research project by FAPESP (Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo), in partnership with BIREME - the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information. Since 2002, the Project has been supported by CNPq - Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico.  

The Web of Science is a bibliographic database in the sciences, social sciences, arts and humanities. The database indexes more than 8,700 journals, with about 1.1 million records and 23 million references cited per year and provides searches on citations of articles. The Web of Science offers exclusive access to: Science Citation Index Expanded™; Social Sciences Citation Index®; Arts & Humanities Citation Index®. Records indexed from 1945 onwards. Access is restricted to CAPES Portal institutions.  

Scopus is a database of abstracts and bibliographic references of peer-reviewed scientific literature, with more than 18,000 titles from 5,000 international publishers. It has a multidisciplinary scope of science and integrates all relevant sources for basic and applied research and technological innovation through patents, web sources of scientific content, open access journals, conference and congress proceedings. It is updated daily and contains Articles in Press from over 3,000 journals. Access is restricted to CAPES Portal institutions. It also has tools for bibliometric studies and evaluation of scientific production, such as: author profile, institution profile, citation tracker, h-index and journal analyzer. 

Embase is a bibliographic database of published research in biomedicine and pharmacology. It allows integrated searching with MEDLINE: it has more than 11 million EMBASE records from 1974 to the present and more than 7 million records exclusive of MEDLINE from 1966 to the present. Access is allowed at FIOCRUZ.

Capes Portal 

The Capes Portal offers access to the full texts of articles selected from more than 15,475 international, national and foreign journals, and 126 databases with summaries of documents in all areas of knowledge. It also includes a selection of important academic information sources with free access to the Internet. 

The use of the Portal is free for the users of the participating institutions. Access is from any terminal connected to the Internet located in the institutions or authorized by them. 

Web Qualis 

The Web Qualis is the set of procedures used by Capes to stratify the quality of the intellectual production of graduate programs. 

National Collective Catalog (CCN) 

The National Collective Catalog (CCN) is a cooperative network of information units located in Brazil with the objective of gathering, in a single National Catalog of public access, information on scientific technical periodicals gathered in hundreds of catalogs distributed in the various libraries in the country.  

Health Sciences Descriptors (DECS) 

The trilingual structured vocabulary Health Sciences Descriptors (DECS) was created by BIREME and is used for indexing scientific journal articles, books, congress proceedings, technical reports, and other types of materials, as well as for searching and retrieving subjects from the scientific literature in LILACS, MEDLINE and other databases available in the Virtual Health Library (VHL).  

Impact Factor - Journal Citation Reports (JCR) 

The impact factor is a measure that reflects the average number of citations of scientific articles published in a particular journal and is abbreviated as IF. It is often used to evaluate the importance of a given journal in its field, with those with a higher IF being considered more important than those with a lower IF.  

Portal for Health Sciences Scientific Journals   

The Portal of Journals on Health Sciences is a catalog of scientific and technical health journals that provides information on the journals, makes available the electronic version (online) of the titles, informs the journals available in the cooperating libraries of the collective catalog SeCS (Serials in Health Sciences) and Journals indexed in LILACS, MEDLINE and other VHL databases are included in the Portal of Journals of the VHL.  

Fiocruz Virtual Library (VHL) 

The development of the Fiocruz Virtual Library reaffirms the importance of scientific and technological information in health demonstrated by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation - FIOCRUZ, from a historical context regarding the organization and institutional structuring. This model of institutional policy is reflected in the creation of the Coordination of Virtual Health Libraries, investing in the international project of Virtual Health Libraries as part of the initiative to integrate all Virtual Health Libraries - VHL in a collaborative network.
